Sydney Festival - The Famous Spiegeltent - interior
Sekou Keita Quintet
Spiegeltents are hand-hewn pavilions used as travelling dance halls, bars and entertainment salons since they were created in the early 20th century. There are only a handful of these unique and legendary ‘tents of mirrors' left in the world today. Built of wood, mirrors, canvas, leaded glass and detailed in velvet and brocade, each has its own personality and style.

Sydney Festival - The Famous Spiegeltent - exterior
The most beautiful of the last remaining Belgian Spiegeltents, The Famous Spiegeltent, was built in 1920 by master craftsmen Oscar Mols Dom and Loius Goor. This Grande Dame has spent her lifetime at the bequest of festivals and fairgrounds throughout Europe and beyond, playing host to the world's greatest cabaret artists, musicians and circus burlesque performers.

Straya Day
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian.
(chorus, I am Australian, Woodley/Newton)
HAPPY STRAYA DAY MATE!

Last Riverboat Postman
Captain Len
The Last Riverboat Postman is a little wooden ferry that still plies the Hawkesbury River delivering mail and groceries to people who live on the islands along the river. Its a lovely way to spend a few hours, which is exactly what Julie from Sydney Eye and myself did a couple of weeks back.Sunday, 17 January 2010
