Annual Jacaranda Post

Mark at Clarence Valley Today make his first jacaranda post weeks ago. In Sydney they seem to have taken a long time to come into flower. Looking both ways at Circular Quay, and my local trees.

I hope you can see these. They were taken with the point and shoot cranked up as high as it could go so the quality is pretty poor. This is my favourite of the Art and About installations that I have managed to see this year. I hope you can make out the faces watching from the trees.

There must be a better way

Actually, there is, but it costs money to put the wires underground and at the moment we are a safe Labor electorate in a state with a Labor government so there's nothing to be gained.

Swamp

I had no idea there was a swamp in Centennial Park. Its the remnants of the original swamp that once covered the area. I also had no idea how beautiful this end of the park is with its ponds and paperbark groves. I've only ever been to the upper part of the Park before. Its a huge place and well worth visiting if you are in Sydney and want to see something a little different to the main tourist sights.

Sky Watch Friday/Its starting to look a lot like Christmas (11)

I have no idea what this tree is but its covered in red berries and obviously fruits just before Christmas. If anyone knows what it is, please tell me.

Update - We think its a species of cotoneaster (thanks mum). Its also an invasive weed. Isn't that sad.

NO ITS NOT - they aren't berries, they are flowers, which I think means its a brachychiton aceifolius or Illawarra Flame Tree (which makes a lot more sense, given its location).
