Sculpture by the Sea

Despite the crowds, with a very long lens and a bit of patience it was possible to get some decent shots.

I don't pretend to understand modern art and a lot of it I don't like but there were several pieces exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea that I really liked. This is one of them, there's something very peaceful about it:

Steinunn Thorarinsdottir, Iceland
Presence
Materials: aluminium
Dimensions: 81cm x 50 cm x 75 cm
Artist's Statement: Look and see.

Here's a close up.

Sculpture Scrum

Those of you who follow Sally's blog will have seen her beautiful early morning photos of Sculpture by the Sea. The day I visited everyone else had the same idea and it was so crowded as to be uncomfortable. If you look carefully you'll see the walking track is packed with people as far as the eye can see. The wooden sculpture to the right of shot is:

Louisa Dawson
Social Climbing
materials: wood
dimensions: 375cmx180cmx100cm
artist statement: The tower of tables, joined with a staircase, explores the social functions of the dinner table, suggesting moving up the dinner table or escaping out the bottom.

The brightly coloured bottles turned out not to be a sculpture at all but a promotion for Liptons iced tea.

Icon

Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach on a hot, spring Sunday. Although its our best known beach internationally, its by no means my favourite and there are better beaches in Sydney.

More Art and About

This untitled banner by Louise Hearman is my favourite of the Open Gallery street decorations, another part of Art and About. Unfortunately it was a windy day.

BFF Award

I am surprised and thrilled that the wonderful Selim from Izmir Daily Photo has seen fit to award me the "Blogging Friends Forever Award". Thank you Selim, if I can manage to be half as good a photographer as you I will be happy.

Now it is my turn to give the award to five other bloggers according to the following rules:
1. Only five people are allowed
2. Four have to be dedicated followers of your blog
3. One has to be someone new or recently new to your blog and live in another part of the world
4. You must link back to whoever gave you the award

But how to pick only five? After great deliberation I have chosen:

Dina in the Jerusalem Hills
Gallimaufry in Shimla
Meead in Portland
Jules in Rabaul
Sara in Mashad

Sandringham Gardens

Sandringham Gardens in Hyde Park.

Sydney Life

Sydney Life is a photography exhibition held along the central walkway of Hyde Park as part of the annual Art and About cultural event, which brings art to the streets and laneways of the city.I particularly like these two - Wendy McDougall's Hanging at the Beach (above) and Paul Blackmore's Suburban Serpent (below).
But my absolute favourite is Scot McGale's portrait of a mother with her just born baby - New Sydney Life.
