Art and About (3)

This has to be the strangest of the Art and About installations. Inside a small house set up in Queens Square outside the Barracks Museum, the rain falls and everything slowly decays. Its got something to do with how saying the wrong thing can cause everything to change and a relationship to decay. This is how I got water in the camera. It wasn't just a little rain in there, it was torrential.

Art and About - Acts of Kindness

For the 24th Kaldor Public Art Project in partnership with Art & About, Michael Landy has created a major new work Acts of Kindness, for Sydney.

Acts of Kindness investigates the meaning of kindness in today’s fast-paced world, focusing on the simple everyday gestures of compassion and generosity that occur throughout the city streets and often go unnoticed. Stories of kindness have been collected from people across Sydney to form the basis for Landy’s ambitious new artwork. Visit lower Martin Placeto see Landy’s 13-metre installation, mapping the Sydney CBD and indicating where the 200 stories of kindness have been placed throughout the city streets.

One for the little man

When Sydney City Council shut Wayne down, admittedly due to unpaid rent, loyal customers rallied and prevailed. We just hope he can keep on top of things in the future. Having your stall in front of the Supreme Court and close to lots of legal chambers wouldn't have hurt either. He even made the Sydney Morning Herald. It was good to see that this cold, hard city can still have heart.

The Sublime and the Ridiculous

Centrepoint Tower looked a lot better before they stuck big red lettering on it.

Barracks in Blue

I don't know why the Barracks Museum was blue but it certainly looked good.

Fight for your rights

It didn't make any difference and they passed the legislation but its still worth letting them know how we feel. The main issue shouldn't be the money (although that's what the media have focussed on) its about maintaining the independence of the Industrial Relations Commission.

BMA House

I've walked past BMA (British Medical Association) House many, many times but never had the opportunity to explore inside. Until now. Last week I had an appointment at one of medical suites and was stunned by what I found inside the building.

Theme Day - My Favourite Part of Town

Difficult to choose but one of my favourite parts of Sydney would be Macquarie Street, home to some of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in the city. Here are some of the sights you can see along Macquarie Street at various times of the year.
