Actually, there is, but it costs money to put the wires underground and at the moment we are a safe Labor electorate in a state with a Labor government so there's nothing to be gained.
I recently took pictures of the same thing here in Auckland, in one case with trees that looked rather like the above (Queensland Box Trees? The intact trees on the opposite side of the road are a beautiful shape) and in one case with plane trees. I have not actually seen the arborists at work in that situation - that would be a bit delicate, I think.

That's severe.
There is another way. No one loves trees more than I. But they belong in the bush.
