Greek Orthodox Church, Kogarah

The Greek Orthodox Church in Kogarah looks extremely plain from the outside. Inside, however, is completely different.

Very European, as one might expect. There is another major Greek church just off the roundabout at Kingsford on Gardners Road. It is plain on the outside, too.

It was built in the early 1980s when councils were trying to 'tone down' styles of buildings so that they would fit into the surroundings rather than let them display a unique flair. This church was supposed to have a bell tower that was never built because laws had been passed against church bells ringing in residential areas.
