Kookaburrra

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra
Gay your life must be.

Message to the world

This is an exhbition by Caritas Australia in the foyer of Sydney City Library. It is a multi-media exhibition called "Blueprint for a Better World: the millennium development goals and you" and highlights the realities and development challenges in the world today, as well as the work that Caritas Australia and its partners are doing to meet these challenges. Visitors are encouraged to write their ideas for creating a better world on slips of paper and attach them to the display stands.

Sacred Ibis

The bird on the TV aerial in Thursday's photo is an Australian White Ibis (commonly called a Sacred Ibis). They are protected, as you can see from the tags on its legs, and these days seem to be everywhere around the city. I don't like them and haven't ever since one flew off with a just unwrapped whole uneaten chicken at a picnic years ago. They are becoming pests and you often see them foraging through garbage bins.
