Sky Watch Friday/Art & About - The Bike Bike

"Marvel at the construction of this enormous 12 metre high Penny Farthing bicycle, built from recycled bikes. Referencing our past and our future, The Bike Bike by Alasdair Nicol challenges us to think about Sydney transport, and its implications for our environment."
"The Bike Bike is a giant Penny Farthing sculpture made from pre-loved bicycles. Playing with notions of sustainability, the sculpture uses recycled and found cycles and found bicycles in such a way as to allow them to be reused after the installation period. The project draws attention to current trends towards bicycle commuting and celebrates the fact that Australia now sells more bicycles than cars each year. Set atop the grandeur of Martin Place, The Bike Bike calls to mind not only the heritage of cycling, but the evolution of Sydney's landscape and CBD development"
