I shake my head at things like this. I find it really annoying. What it does it ward off the people who would never dream of destroying it and just make the vandals sneakier.
Nice photo though ... will have to do the Hyde Park shuffle tomorrow, too. Especially the fairy lights.
Peter, that happened with Clover our estwhile Mayor too, not long after she was first elected. She was nicknamed "Scrooge". She did an about-face pretty damn quick! Now we have dingle-dangles all over the town ...
Shame there has to be an ever present security guard to prevent its damage.

Our Council is too tight to provide street decorations, so in the middle of peak tourist season, there's no sign of festivity.
I guess that saves on security!

We have an odd Christmas tradition in Sweden where people from all over the world visit Gävle where they try to burn down the big Yule Goat.
