You shall not pass

This was the scene in the office last Monday after the basement of one wing of the building flooded over the weekend. Half the building (not my half unfortunately) was evactuated for the morning, the stair well was full of fumes from the exhaust fans and pumps being used to clear the basement and as of last Friday we still didn't have the main lifts or any airconditioning. Thankfully its an old 6 storey building and I'm on the third floor. Below is one of the pumps and the hose snaking around the building.

Good lord: how did that happen?

It is a lovely old building in which you work.

Oi, and it's taking a long time to fix. What happened?! Never a dull moment.

All we were told is that water entered the basement and the pumps failed to work. Someone said it could be groundwater due to heavy rain over the last week or so. Apparently it happened a few years ago as well and they lost heaps of records.
