Art and About - Laneway Art (2)

Near yesterday's Donut is this untitled work by Barry McGee: Street art is by nature political – enabling a sense of personal existence and ownership of a space that can otherwise seem cold and austere. Barry McGee has created an evocative work that teeters between the free spirit of graffiti, the random energy of the urbane and the pure intent of controlled artistry.

Around the corner is this one. Not sure whether its by the same artist or not, forgot to read the sign and its not on the website.

Not sure I like that second one, but the colour, shape and placement of the first one is very pleasing to the eye.

I quite like the second one. A single tag is a bit of an eyesore to me but when it's in a block I find it quite appealing. Much like tins of baked beans at the supermarket.

Lucky you got a shot of the second one. Apparently the artist was not authorised to paint on that wall, just the first one around the corner. The council was supposed to painted over the red one, soon after it was done.

That's interesting, Jim. It explains why its not in the program. I prefer the red one to the other.
