Sky Watch Friday

St James Anglican Church is Sydney's oldest, commissioned by Governor Macquarie and designed by the convict architect, Francis Greenway. For the past few months the steeple has been surrounded by scaffolding which has now been removed to reveal the brand new copper cladding. It looks better than I had hoped and had to be done as the last time the spire was coppered was in 1822. No doubt, in time, it will regain the beautiful, soft green weathered patina that everyone loved.

They did a nice job. It's a pretty color even if it does no longer match the color of the church.
Great shot with the tower.

I agree. It did turn out looking better than I expected too. These comparison shots are brilliant. It's great that you had that first shot to give us that contrast. Great work.

Lovely comparison, Ann. I wonder why they did not clean up the ball and the cross while they were at it.

They are doing something similar to the clock tower down at Central Station. It is totally swathed at the moment.

I like the lookf of newly minted copper steeples. It looks a bit odd with the weathered cross on top, but I'm sure your hot sun will age it all in good time!
