I'd have to look at what aperture I used (don't have the program on my work computer - not allowed to dowload anything) but I suspect this was a mid range one (F8?). If I'm right then I think you'd widen the aperture then see what shutter speed it would let you set. I think.
What combination of aperture and s/s would have enabled you to both capture the motion AND blur the background? Julie, to do that you would either need the subject to be moving relative to the background, and pan the camera to follow the subject. (this is the sort of shot you often see when following things like Motor Racing, OR you need a very shallow depth of field.

Okay ... let me see if I can work this out ...
The first one had a higher s/s and you froze the action.
The second one had a lower s/s and you captured the motion.
