Sky Watch Friday

One of the best places to see grey headed flying foxes is near the duck pond in the Botanical Gardens. You'll know when you are getting close by the smell. They stink, but are fascinating to watch.

Yep - they stink and they drop "stuff" and the ground beneath them is disgusting.

But they are fascinating ... and ever so hard to dislodge!

Good shot, Ann. Glad you did not call them bats ... even though they send me batty!

Smelly things they are, but fascinating too. We have one that lives in the palm outside my youngest daughter's window. She loves to sit and watch him at dusk.

Ooh..bats...mmm...saw some in Toowoomba like that not long ago! They were so noisy...during the day! They also live not far from here along the river! And are usually noisy at night! Haven't noticed the smell so much , luckiliy!

WOW! I have NEVER seen bats in the wild. We just don't have them around here. Raccoons, skunks, possums, deer, geese...those I see regularly (though the first three are often roadkill, sadly). Never bats. This is incredible! And not in a cave at night. That's interesting. (You can tell I obviously don't know a whole lot about bats!)
